Bart Nicolaï (Belgium)

Post-harvest Technology & Food Safety Inspection

Bart Nicolaï is associate professor at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), where he is responsible for coordination of the scientific research at the Flanders Center of Post-Harvest Technology. He is also head of the university´s Laboratory of Post-Harvest Research.

Nicolaï holds degrees in Agricultural Engineering and Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences. His main research interests are post-harvest physiology, refrigeration, heat and mass transfer, and food quality. He is chairman of the Special Interest Group on Post-harvest Processing of the European Association of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng) and president of commission C2 (Food Science and Engineering) of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR-IIF). His laboratory also offers advanced engineering support for process and product design in the agro-food industry (CADcracker; improving food processes).
